Jurgen Klopp is “more happy” with Liverpool’s performance in their Champions League defeat to Napoli.
Liverpool started the defence of their European crown with a 2-0 defeat in the Stadio San Paolo, a repeat result of their loss in the group stage against the Italians last season.
The defeat was not completely damaging to their hopes of progressing but did pierce their air of invincibility, with individual mistakes making life that bit tougher.
Klopp admits Liverpool “made wrong decisions” at certain points, but that their display was otherwise “so mature”.
“The longer it’s been since the Napoli game, the more happy I am with the performance,” he told Sky Sports.
“It was so mature.
“We lost three games in the Champions League group stage last season but none were like Tuesday’s game. In many moments, we controlled the game as we wanted to but the decisive part is the last pass and that didn’t happen for different reasons.
“We made wrong decisions, we stayed in the centre where they were really compact but in general, the maturity with which we played the game was a big step.”
