Jurgen Klopp has taken a keen interest in talks to bring RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner to Liverpool this summer, according to reports.
The Athletic journalist James Pearce confirmed on Tuesday that the Germany international is “absolutely desperate” to join Liverpool this summer.
The 24-year-old – who has been flirting with a potential transfer to the Reds – has scored a remarkable 21 Bundesliga goals this season but is reported to have a release clause in his contract.

Reports earlier this month claimed that Liverpool were in ‘advanced talks’ with Werner, while they have also reportedly told his representatives that ‘they need more time to decide on whether to make a formal offer for the Germany international’.
And now Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness) says that ‘uncertainties’ surrounding Premier League finances ‘aren’t allowing the Reds to sink the deal’ at the moment.
The Italian publication goes on to mention that his release clause is set at €60m (£54m) but that it could be reduced to €50m (£45m).
French website Le10 Sport claims that Werner is ‘one of the great priorities’ for Klopp as he looks to improve his Liverpool team this summer.
The report adds that Klopp has decided to ‘personally involve’ himself by ‘calling him a number of times’ to outline his vision.
Le10 Sport describe Werner as the ‘lucky winner’ if Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino or Mohamed Salah leave Anfield in the next transfer window.
