Maurizio Sarri has revealed one thing that N’Golo Kante did “wrong” during Chelsea’s 3-1 defeat to Tottenham over the weekend.
The Blues were taken apart by Spurs in their loss at Wembley with Alan Shearer calling for Kante to be played deeper by Sarri.
And Sarri, whose side face PAOK in the Europa League on Thursday, thinks that Kante needs to stay nearer Jorginho and stop getting forward as much as he did on Saturday.
“As you know I want to play a central midfielder with great technical ability, so Jorginho and Fabregas” Sarri told reporters. “I don’t want Kante in this position. Kante tried to solve the match on Saturday, but in the wrong way. He tried to be too attacking.
“Maybe it is a question of time. He needs to stay near to Jorginho.
“It depends on the action (Kante getting forward). If the ball is on the left, no. He has to stay very close to Jorginho.”
On the Premier League title race, Sarri was asked whether the gap to Manchester City was too large to surmount, he replied: “I think the points average of Man City is, I don’t know, but it is very difficult to stay very close.
“At the moment it is better not to look at the table. We have to improve. Our target is to be in the first four positions because we want to play Champions League.
“The Premier League it is not easy to be in top four. The target is this, we cannot look at City.”
