Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has explained why it “would be a nightmare” if Liverpool won the Premier League title this season.
Rooney started off his career at Liverpool’s local rivals Everton before moving to Manchester United, where he spent the majority of his playing career,
The Englishman is now plying his trade in the United States at DC United following another short spell at Goodison Park.
And with his allegiances, Rooney admits it would be a “nightmare” if Jurgen Klopp’s men won the title, preferring even Manchester City to win the Premier League instead.
“It’s a great reason to be out the country when those two are going head-to-head for the title,” Rooney told talkSPORT.
“I hope Man City get over the line before Liverpool. I couldn’t bear to see them win it, it would be a nightmare for any Evertonian.
“I remember in 2005 (Liverpool) won the Champions League and they’re still talking about it now so it would be another 10 or 15 years of that.”
Liverpool are currently two points ahead of Manchester City in the Premier League, however the Citizens have a game in hand on Klopp’s outfit.
