Jurgen Klopp claims that despite “a few problems”, Mohamed Salah is fit to play against Everton on Sunday, and his squad are in the “best possible shape”.

Salah has not been pictured taking part in training in recent days, and missed last weekend’s behind-closed-doors friendly against Blackburn Rovers as a precaution.

But Klopp insists Salah, along with Andy Robertson and Alisson – who were also doubts – is in contention to face Everton on Sunday.

He said: “They look all good. During training period there have been a few problems, normal. None of them are ruled out for Sunday I can say.”

Liverpool had lost four of their last six games before the lockdown, but Klopp claims he was “happy” with the way his team were performing.

He added: “If you don’t have the results you want there are plenty of reasons for it. From a performance v Atletico, I was really happy. In between the big moments there was a lot we could use against a top side.

“It’s all about now and the momentum we have. We have made sure we are in the best shape. The boys were rested when they arrived but getting used to football means they had a lot to do. We are in the best possible shape but probably not 100%.

“Everton will be highly motivated. To start with a derby in a normal season would be really interesting but now it is a special game for different reasons.

“In nine weeks without doing anything you can lose it. The players have trained every day. We didn’t train for specific moment as we didn’t know when we play. That was tricky to be in best shape on specific day. We kept them fit until we knew it was time to go again.

“Unfortunately it is not like riding a bike as we say in Germany. We have to bring 11 or more together with the same idea at the same moment. We have to train these ideas and even more so after a longer break. But it looked really good. Timing always needs to be adjusted.

“I expect Everton to be in a very good shape. It will be tough but rightly so, it is the Premier League. We should try to solve their problems. And cause a few of their own.”
