Jurgen Klopp has compared former Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho to Italy legend Alessandro del Piero.
The Brazilian moved to Barcelona from Liverpool in January 2018 for a fee that could rise to £142m.
Coutinho struggled to settle in Spain however, and has joined Bayern Munich just over 18 months later on loan.
Following his arrival at Bayern, Coutinho announced that he favoured playing as a number 10.
“Of course it’s up to the coach, but my favorite position is the 10,” Coutinho said. “Because I can move around there best.”
And talking to Kicker on Coutinho’s move to Bayern, Klopp explained why he rarely played the 27-year-old in his preferred position at Anfield.
Klopp said: “He is very dominant player who helps a team properly and who can shape them. He has to play, it will not be like that from day one but from that first day they will get a great player.
“He played his favorite position number ten relatively rarely with us. He can play a great eight and a really great left wing because he is strong in small rooms, but also fast enough for large spaces. He has an outstanding eye for the situation.
“Not since Alessandro del Piero have I seen any [player] who finishes moves from the left to the inside from similar positions and angles with the same frequency [as Coutinho].”
