Pep Guardiola was still delighted with Manchester City’s performance despite suffering their first defeat of the season at Chelsea on Saturday evening.
City dominated the ball in the first half, but Chelsea with their first shot on goal would move ahead through N’Golo Kante’s thunderous strike into the roof of the net.
Chelsea showed more attacking intent after the break and got their reward when David Luiz’s glancing header from a corner looped over Ederson and into the net.
Guardiola refused to criticise any of his players, and instead paid tribute to their effort and determination.
Speaking to BT Sport he said: “They [Chelsea] made a movement down our left side and we could not control it. We played better than other days when we have won.
“The way we played in the first half was incredible. They had minimum chances and scored and in the second half we were there until the end.
“It is emotional for me to see these players do what they do every three days. It is the level that it is. We were outstanding except for five to eight minutes.
“We try to be champion. Everyone wants to beat us. Now it is recovery for the Champions League.
“We still have a lot of points to gain and a lot of games to play. We have to be consistent and today we were so I have no problems with that.”
