SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST: THE LOSERS Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been talking about Manchester United’s squad going forward being a case of ‘survival of the fittest’, so who loses out in that scenario? The Daily Mirror come up with six names: Ander Herrera, Juan Mata, Antonio Valencia, Matteo Darmian, Marcos Rojo and Alexis Sanchez. Good luck on getting somebody to take on the latter’s wages, fella.
There is talk elsewhere (in Italy) that Darmian will be offered a new four-year contract, but it will only be a cunning ploy to stop him running down his contract and leaving for nothing. Sneaky.
ERIKSEN TO INTER? There had been an assumption that Christian Eriksen would join Real Madrid this summer, but reports in Italy suggest that he is far more likely to end up in Serie A, with Juventus and Inter Milan both interested in the Dane, though a price tag of over £85m could put off those suitors. Still, Inter are said to have ‘opened talks’.
Meanwhile, AS claim that Real are happy to sell Toni Kroos to help fund moves for both Paul Pogba and Eriksen. Oddly enough, there’s no mention in that story of Eden Hazard.
As for Tottenham, there is talk of them spending £30m on Andre Gomes. And what a lovely move that would be.
CHERRIES TO CASH IN ON FRASER They really don’t have an awful lot of choice as Ryan Fraser is out of contract next year and he has shown no interest in talking about a new Bournemouth contract, according to the Daily Mirror. So to avoid losing him for free, they may well have to sell him this summer.
Arsenal are said to be interested in the Scottish assist king – he has ten in the Premier League this season – and that would seem like a tremendous fit. The good news for Bournemouth fans is that Callum Wilson is not quite so interested in testing himself away from the south coast.
AND THE REST Everton boss Marco Silva ‘surprised’ at speculation about Theo Walcott leaving the club, even though he clearly wants Theo Walcott to leave the club…Borussia Dortmund, Fiorentina and Torino are all interested in signing Michy Batshuayi, who Chelsea want to sell this summer for the best part of £40m, which pretty much rules out Crystal Palace.
